Evaluating Methane Pyrolysis Across Three Industrial Applications
Methane pyrolysis can support a range of industrial applications. To explore how Ekona's xCaliber™ reactor technology performs in different industrial settings, we've developed three commercial use cases that examine economics, emissions performance, and deployment considerations through a common analytical framework.
- Industrial Hydrogen: Industrial hydrogen is one of the world's largest sources of hydrogen demand and a critical input for industries including ammonia, methanol, petrochemicals, and refining. The Industrial Hydrogen Use Case explores how methane pyrolysis performs as a production pathway for low-emission hydrogen while meeting the cost, scale, and reliability requirements of commodity markets.
- Low-Emission Fuel for Industrial Heat: Industrial heat applications continue to rely heavily on hydrocarbon fuels. The Low-Emission Fuel for Industrial Heat Use Case examines how methane pyrolysis can produce a hydrogen-rich syngas that reduces emissions while maintaining the affordability, scalability, and operational resilience required by industrial facilities.
- Clean Carbon Black: Carbon black is an essential industrial material used across a wide range of manufacturing applications. The Clean Carbon Black Use Case evaluates methane pyrolysis as an alternative production pathway that uses natural gas feedstock to produce ASTM-grade carbon black while reducing lifecycle emissions and maintaining the cost competitiveness and scale required for industrial markets.
Each use case provides a summary-level view of a broader techno-economic assessment developed using Ekona's commercial-scale design package and modelling framework. The analyses are intended to illustrate operating context, economic considerations, and emissions performance under defined assumptions. Detailed technical assumptions and region-specific analyses are available on request.
